It was in October 2017 I quit my job as an investigative journalist producing TV news in Washington, D.C. After working for a few local news affiliates, a couple national news outlets, and a cable news network, I had to move back into my parents’ house in Michigan. I was only 23, and I was devastated to leave everything I worked so hard for. But my liver was failing. Doctors were saying I needed a transplant. And that was my cue to start documenting. This deeply personal labor of love is the end product.
